Shannon Ames, Executive Director
Shannon Ames is LIHI’s Executive Director and has served LIHI in this role since 2016. She is responsible for strategic direction, oversight of administrative responsibilities, and the continued success of the Low Impact Hydropower Institute and its Certification Program. Prior to joining LIHI, Shannon worked as the director of stakeholder and government relations for Brookfield Renewable Energy Group, then based in Marlborough, Massachusetts. Shannon also worked for four years as the environmental director for the senate co-chair of the Massachusetts environment and natural resources committee. Shannon has worked on environmental and energy legislation at the state and national level, including development of a conservation plan for Massachusetts’ ocean resources, land conservation and protection, renewable portfolio standards, and climate legislation. Shannon has experience in project management, small business ownership, and nonprofit management, including currently serving as board president of the Mystic River Watershed Association. Previously, she served on the board of the Waldorf School of Lexington, Independent Power Producers of NY, New England Power Generators Association, and the Brookfield US Foundation. Shannon has a BA from Colby College and an MBA in public and non-profit management from Boston University.
