Member Qualifications<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

Currently, we are seeking to strengthen the board\u2019s capacity in the following areas: financial expertise; leadership succession; racial and ethnic diversity; NGO representation; early and mid-career professionals; and New England regional perspective. Nominations for candidates who advance multiple priorities\u00a0are especially welcome.<\/span><\/p>\n

Please note: A candidate\u2019s professional experience is highly relevant to their board contribution. However, individuals serve on the board \u2013 not organizations. When serving, each board member is expected to share their professional perspectives but ultimately act as a steward for LIHI, making decisions that are in the best interest of the organization.<\/span><\/p>\n

Priorities<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

LIHI seeks new board members with diverse professional, cultural, and geographic perspectives\u2014particularly\u00a0professionals with:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • racially or ethnically diverse backgrounds<\/strong> and<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Indigenous leaders <\/strong>with expertise in environmental justice, river protection, or renewable energy.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    We are looking for potential new board members who hold one or more of the core skills and experiences listed below but we do not expect board members to embody all the traits listed.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u00a0<\/strong><\/span>Core Skills and Experience<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n
      \n
    • River and Hydropower Expertise: <\/strong>Experience in hydropower licensing, fish passage, aquatic biology, or watershed management.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Environmental and Cultural Resource Management: <\/strong>Knowledge of river ecology, tribal resource protection, and community engagement.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Governance and Finance: <\/strong>Experience with nonprofit leadership, budgeting, and oversight.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Sustainability and Energy Markets: <\/strong>Expertise in ESG frameworks, renewable energy certification, or clean energy finance.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Public Engagement: <\/strong>Proven ability to collaborate across sectors and communications expertise.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Timing<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

        LIHI welcomes nominations throughout the year. Vetting typically happens in the spring and summer. Board elections are held at the annual board meeting, typically in October, and terms begin at that time. Terms are three years in length and can be renewed twice for a total of three three-year terms.<\/span><\/p>\n
