Lexington MA (February 4, 2019): The Low Impact Hydropower Institute has issued a final decision on the recertification of the Beaver River Hydroelectric Project. This project is located on the Beaver River in New York.
On December 5, 2018, LIHI announced the Preliminary Decision, made by the LIHI Governing Board Technical Committee, that the Beaver River Hydroelectric Project (FERC No. 2645) continues to satisfy the LIHI Low Impact Certification Criteria. A 30-day appeal period was open through January 6, 2019. Two requests for appeal of the recertification decision were filed on January 5. LIHI staff considered the merits of the appeal requests and determined that insufficient new information was provided to warrant further review, however they did recommend amending one of the conditions. On January 30, 2019 the LIHI Governing Board Technical Committee approved the condition change. The LIHI response to the appeal requests was sent to appellants on January 30, 2019 and is posted on the project page linked below.
The Beaver River Hydroelectric Project is now deemed certified by LIHI. The effective date for the certification is July 16, 2018 for a five (5) year term, which will expire on July 15, 2023. There is provision to extend the certification term by three (3) years pending receipt of additional information from the Project owner in accordance with Condition No. 2 of the certification.
