For Immediate Release – September 16, 2016
Harrington Park, NJ (September 16, 2016) – The Low Impact Hydropower Institute (LIHI) is pleased to announce the selection of Shannon Ames of Arlington, MA, as its new Executive Director. Ms. Ames will assume the role currently filled by Dr. Michael Sale, effective October 1, 2016. Dr. Sale will stay on with LIHI in a technical advisory role to help manage LIHI’s certification program for a transitionary period. LIHI’s Governing Board selected Ms. Ames after a highly competitive, nationwide job search.
Ms. Ames brings to LIHI experience within the hydropower industry and with environmental policy. She worked for nearly six years for Brookfield Renewable Energy Group and before that for four years with the Massachusetts Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture. She has an MBA from Boston University and a BA from Colby College.
“Bringing together my great respect for hydropower generation with my commitment to environmental protection is an amazing opportunity. I am looking forward to working with the NGO community and hydropower professionals to provide value to our certificate holders,” says Ames.
John Seebach, LIHI Governing Board Chair, says of this change: “This was a planned transition in the leadership of LIHI, and we are extremely happy with how it has turned out. We are getting the best of two worlds: Shannon will give us a strong, policy oriented leadership and Mike will continue to support her with expert technical knowledge of the environmental effects of hydropower and LIHI’s most recent criteria revisions. LIHI is now well positioned for the future.”
