HARRINGTON PARK, NEW JERSEY – (March 12, 2014) – LIHI is pleased to announce that the City of Tacoma’s Nisqually Hydroelectric Project (FERC No. 1862, LIHI Certificate No. 8) has been determined to continue to meet the requirements of the Low Impact Hydropower Certification Program. The Institute’s Executive Director Michael J. Sale reviewed the application for certification, as well as the Application Reviewer’s report. Using delegated authority from the LIHI Governing Board, the Executive Director certified the Nisqually Hydroelectric Project for a term of 5 years. The certification effective date for the Nisqually Project is April 15, 2013, and certification will expire on April 15, 2018.
Any Commenter may submit a letter to the Executive Director requesting an appeal within 30 days of the posting of the Certification Decision on the Institute’s Web page. An appeal request must include specific reasons why the hydropower facility should have failed one or more criteria. If an individual or organization did not comment on the initial Application Package, they may not file an appeal.
