Dr. Glenn Cada recently retired as a Distinguished Research Staff Member of the Environmental Sciences Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. A fisheries biologist, he worked for over 36 years carrying out research and assessment of the impacts of energy developments on aquatic resources. His hydropower-related research on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Water Power Program included field validation studies of instream flow assessment methodologies, evaluation and mitigation of low dissolved oxygen concentrations in hydropower reservoir releases, and the mitigation of upstream and downstream fish passage problems. Since 1994 he has been involved in development and testing of advanced, environmentally friendly hydropower turbines.
Dr. Cada has participated in numerous environmental impacts statements and other assessment activities for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and is the author of over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. He has advised scientific and regulatory agencies in Brazil, Laos, and the Netherlands on downstream fish passage mitigation.
